Meet our new paediatrician, Dr Ezy

YourCH extends a warm welcome to Dr Ezyan (Ezy for short) Othman (she/her/hers), who recently joined our paediatric team.

Working on Mondays and Tuesdays at our Preston (PANCH) location, Dr Ezy supports patients with many concerns, including gastrointestinal concerns such as eating and nutrition.

We asked Dr Ezy a few questions so you can get to know her. Read on to find out about her military background, her hobbies and why she loves her work.

Why did you become a paediatrician?
I actually came to paediatrics following initial years doing battlefield medicine in the military and family practice. I focused more on adult medicine but found that diagnosing and treating children was more rewarding. When it came time to choose if I would specialise in paediatrics or another area of medicine, it was a no-brainer!

What are your areas of interest in paediatrics?
I have a special interest in paediatric gastroenterology (gastrointestinal diseases), hepatology (liver diseases) and clinical nutrition. I also have training in cardiology (heart), rheumatology (bones and joints) and behavioural and developmental paediatrics. I work closely with GPs and other paediatric specialists to ensure coordinated and integrated care for all my clients. I really believe that ‘it takes a village to raise a child’.

Why are you passionate about your work?
General paediatric issues are common, and there is a lack of access to paediatric specialists, making early intervention almost impossible. There are some segments of our communities who experience these issues more seriously. I want to be part of the solution and Your Community Health is the perfect place to be to do this. I also believe that paediatricians can play a significant role in advocating for health and wellness in children, who often cannot speak for themselves. A positive outcome in children through early intervention – even in chronic cases – will mean a big difference for the families. I hope I can contribute to that.

What hobbies do you enjoy in your free time?
I enjoy sewing or, as my family would say, I am a ‘surgeon wannabe’! I have recently begun to enjoy reading more, especially with a cup of tea next to me. I also enjoy running if it is not in the summer!
