Building Healthier, More Connected Communities Through Food Literacy

Your Community Health’s Health Promotion team is proud to share two new reports highlighting the impact of our recent food literacy and community cooking initiatives. These programs were co-designed with families, students, community partners and local organisations to improve nutrition knowledge, build cooking confidence and strengthen community connection.
Food Literacy Report Cooking and Connection Program
Key highlights from the report:
- Families gained confidence preparing quick, affordable and nutritious meals using everyday, low-cost ingredients.
- Participants strengthened food literacy skills – from reading labels to budgeting and understanding the Go, Grow, Glow model.
- The program created a vibrant, culturally diverse space where families shared traditions, swapped recipes and connected with others.
Cooking and Connection Program
Key highlights from the report:
- Sessions explored practical topics like lunchbox ideas, budgeting, meal planning and sugar awareness – made simple, visual and fun.
- Parents and children cooked side by side, strengthening confidence, skills and intergenerational connection.
- Participants reported feeling more empowered to make healthier choices, shop smartly and adapt recipes at home.
