Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health

Our goal is to support community in all areas of health, including dental, medical and allied health services, as well as social, physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health.

Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community members are given priority access to services, which means we can help you get the services you need as soon as possible.

Services are free for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. To make an appointment, please contact (03) 8470 1111.

Aboriginal HealthAboriginal Health

We have an Aboriginal Health Worker that is there to support your clinical and primary health needs. They also assist the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community in controlling and maintaining their own health and wellbeing.

Access and SupportAccess and Support

The Aboriginal Access and Support program is there to support and provide information to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander clients on their health needs. Our Aboriginal Access and Support worker advocates to enhance the quality of the client’s health and wellbeing. Working closely with clients, carers, family and other services to support clients with their health.

In addition to individual services, we offer a number of group programs, which you will find below.

Kookaburra Club

“Kooka” is a place for Aboriginal friends and family to come together, have lunch, meet different people and be involved in social activities including outings. We also have regular guest speakers, support from Darebin Community Legal Service, information sharing and support from other services. Transport can be provided.

WHO: People who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
WHEN: Mondays 9:30am – 2:30pm
WHERE: wulempuri barring health centre.
COST: free, including lunch provided

Budda Men’s Shed

A place for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander men to gather and work on projects, themselves and build bonds. A place held together by sense of community, brotherhood, and culture. Men that attend participate in cultural activities, good mental health practice and storytelling.

WHO: men who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
WHEN: Tuesdays 3-5pm.
WHERE: Barrbunin Beek Gathering Place. Fred Howe Annex, Catalina Street, Heidelberg West.
COST: free.
